Tea Party Will Try To Steal Elections Through Intimidation

Using bogus claims of “voter fraud”, violence against minorities, women, and Democrats in general, right wingers are trying to steal elections.  Here’s the segment Ed Schultz did on the intimidation Tea Party supporters have used leading up to the midterm elections; Ed also highlights the cases of Wisconsin and Texas where right wing conservatives are trying to suppress the vote of minorities, including Latinos:

As Ed mentioned, Talking Points Memo obtained e-mails from a racist Tea Party supporter group that targeted the group Houston Votes for registering voters of color:

A group trying to register voters in Houston received threats and emails containing racist slurs after being targeted by a local tea party group accusing it of “voter fraud.”

In emails obtained by TPM, the group Houston Votes was accused of being “a bunch of white guilt ridden assholes, N*GGERS and greasy mexican spics,” “fraudulent Marxist pigs,” and “American hating A-holes.”

Also via Talking Points Memo:

The Wisconsin GOP confirmed to Talking Points Memo that documents released by One Wisconsin Now this week outlining a coordinated campaign between the party, a Tea Party group and the state chapter of Americans for Prosperity to address the organizations’ fear of voter fraud originated from his office. But a spokesman said the initiative has since been scrapped and the groups have no plans to work together.

Now a number of billboards which say they are funded by “A Private Family Foundation” have popped up around the state that feature the slogan “VOTER FRAUD is a FELONY!” and feature images of two women of indeterminate race and an African-American man behind bars. The billboards warns Wisconsin residents they could be subjected to up to three years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.

We have to stand up to these bullies folks.  As I’ve mentioned before, our greatest strength against them is our community and our numbers.  For more information on how to protect your vote to make sure right wingers don’t steal it, visit www.866ourvote.org (English) or http://veyvota.yaeshora.info (Spanish).  You can also download via America’s Voice Online (PDF) a guide to take with you to the polls in English or in Spanish spelling out your rights.  Most important: do NOT allow these right wingers to make you leave without voting!  Show them that you’re not afraid of them; as a U.S. citizen, it is YOUR right to exercize your power of the vote!
